Parndana Campus > Welcome

Parndana Campus is an P-12 site of 175 students and is located in the centre of Kangaroo Island in the rural township of Parndana. Agricultural Science is a major curriculum focus. The school’s “farm” comprises of 10 hectares provides for a programme including animal husbandry, cropping, apiary and horticulture.

In 2004 the KI Skills Centre was opened to develop aquaculture into the learning programme as a focus of the Parndana school community for Kangaroo Island Community Education. The Centre is a “re-circulating aquaculture system” in which Barramundi are farmed. The Centre allows students to engage in real life learning with transferable skills and we welcome and encourage visitors to come and see for themselves the wonderful learning that develops from it. The areas of “aquaponics” (aquaculture plus hydroponics) and sustainability are explored by students through their learning programmes.

The Resource Centre at Parndana Campus is fitted with an interactive whiteboard used by students and staff to communicate and collaborate across the Island and with the mainland. Interactive whiteboards are also used by students for local delivery of a number of Year 12 subjects between Kingscote Campus and Parndana as well as for subjects accessed through the Open Access College in Adelaide.

A swimming pool is located in the well maintained grounds, with trees, natural shrubs, lawns and a school oval. Extensive outside shade and seating areas are provided with defined play areas. A fenced dam in which marron are raised is also located in the school grounds.

Parndana Campus is also responsible for the Karatta Outdoor Education Centre which is a campsite on the South Coast Road near Flinders Chase. It is the former site of the Karatta School, which was closed in the 1970’s. The area is approximately 10 hectares and has a dormitory block (sleeping 45 visitors comfortably), kitchen and dining area, storage sheds, toilet and shower block, a dam and an oval. The natural grounds contain structures that support numerous environmental education programs and links to KICE’s Marine & Environmental Education program. This site is hired out to other schools and groups from the mainland including inter-state visitors.

Parndana Campus has a proud academic tradition taking students from Pre-school through to Year 12. The Campus community is also proud of its history and heritage in a Soldier Settlement community.
