Kingscote Campus > Welcome

Kingscote Campus is the largest of the three KICE campuses. It is an R-12 campus of 450+ students and also includes Out of School Hours Care. Kingscote Campus is located in the coastal township of Kingscote on the shore of Nepean Bay. Kingscote is the major service and commercial centre for Kangaroo Island .

Kingscote Campus is set within pleasant grounds, with good playground facilities. The school is mainly of 'D Mac' construction. Major renovations are planned to start in 2007 and will result in the administration, secondary classrooms, senior art room, science labs and computing rooms being replaced. The Junior Primary area was upgraded in 2004 and renovations and painting of buildings not being replaced in the redevelopment are planned for 2007. A large well-equipped School/Community Recreation Centre is used extensively by the students and the general public.

The Resource Centre at Kingscote Campus is fitted with an interactive whiteboard used by students and staff to communicate and collaborate across the Island and with the mainland. Interactive whiteboards are also used by students for local delivery of Year 12 subjects between Parndana Campus and Kingscote. ICT is able to be integrated into learning programs through the deployment of small pods of computers in primary classrooms, access to computers in the Resource Centre, two computing labs and laptops that are borrowed as class sets from the Resource Centre. Laptops connect to the network through wireless technology with access points providing access across the school.

Marine and Environmental Education is a focus at Kingscote Campus. A fantastic variety of award winning programs and opportunities are available to the students at each campus within KICE with links to all areas of the curriculum. Students work with a Consultant Marine Biologist and are involved in beach monitoring, river catchment and wetlands studies, auditing and monitoring native fish species of Kangaroo Island , dolphin research and monitoring and frog watch. Through the innovative use of ICT, involvement in this program has been extended to involve students and 'experts' beyond the school.

To enable learning programs to be linked across KICE each of our sites share a common day structure and lesson times. Senior school timetables for Stage 1 and 2 are linked to increase student choice and to ensure subject viability.

Students at Kingscote enjoy the security of living on an Island in a unique environment. School programs that they participate in are the envy of all those that visit.
